The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the Chandrayaan-2 at 14:43 local time (09:13 GMT) from the Sriharikota space station.
Chandrayaan-2 will attempt to soft land a lander “Vikram” and the rover “Pragyan” on the surface of the moon between two craters: Manzinus C Simpelius N, at a latitude of about 70° south.
Intense vibration during take-off has the potential to cause catastrophic failure to the rocket as well as causing damage to surrounding support facilities. Sherborne Sensors created a bespoke solution based on our successful A215. Measuring a resolution down to 0.05mg in an extreme hostile environment a number of these sensors supplied real-time data back to mission control. The A215 series Accelerometer is a DC-operated, gravity referenced servo accelerometers.
Touch-down on the moon is expected on September 6 or 7th – A journey of more than 6-weeks!
